Inglis Falls
Inglis Falls is one of the staples in our yearly trip to Tobermory. We also stopped by earlier this year on a winter waterfall tour. Located 10 minutes south of Owen Sound in the Inglis Falls Conservation Area, this waterfall is one of a few very impressive waterfalls in the area. The park also contains some historic buildings, interesting antiques and a couple of trails to keep you entertained for as long as you’re there.
Inglis Falls Conservation Area is open year round but access is limited in the winter. The trail that leads you down along the gorge is closed off due to snow and ice, as the ground can be very slippery, and the railings are limited to the viewing deck. The perk to going in the winter is that there isn’t a charge for parking.
One of the reasons I love this spot is that the shape of the waterfall is very unique. As the water falls over the crest it fans out almost 90 degrees as it cascades down over 50 feet of rock to the river below. It’s definitely one of a kind!
If you’re also looking to hike, the park has numerous paths along the gorge and even connects to the Bruce Trail. If you’re feeling adventurous, one of the trails even leads down into the gorge and up to the base of the waterfall. We haven’t done any of the trails at the park yet so I can’t comment on their difficulty.
If you’re traveling in the area then I highly recommend making the stop at Inglis Falls. You will really enjoy the sights!
