Restoule Provincial Park
Restoule Provincial Park was the last stop during our Thanksgiving camping trip and the stay couldn’t have been better! Not only was the park opened for an extra day, but it was also virtually empty. It’s incredibly fun having an entire campground to yourself! One of the perks of it being deserted was that there were numerous deer wandering around the park. When we came back from our hike there was one resting in the site across from ours and we frequently saw them around the comfort station. It was an amazing experience to have a doe and fawn grazing five feet away!
We decided to camp at Restoule Provincial Park to help break up the drive back from Killarney Provincial Park. Restoule is absolutely gorgeous in the fall! The colours were spectacular and it was so peaceful and quiet. The beach was also really nice, but it was too cold at that point to go in. Well, I’m sure some people would still enjoy it, the dog sure did. The park is really spread out but that also means that the campsites are quite spacious. The downside is if you’re in the far east campground, you’re pretty far away from everything else.
There are about 13km of trails in Restoule, most of which are on the Fire Tower Trail. We walked over to the trail head from our campsite which added about 2km each way. The extra distance made it a pretty decent hike. The trail felt like it was constantly changing as we made our way across planted forests, over boardwalks, through marshes and up and over boulders. They also have informational panels setup and a trail guide so you can learn about the history of the area while you’re on the move. I thought this was a great touch. The numerous lookouts on the trail were spectacular! The fall colours sandwiched between the light blue sky and dark blue water looked phenomenal.
If big hikes aren’t for you, there are also numerous smaller, easier trails. Some of which you could even take a stroller on. If that still isn’t your thing, then maybe a game of baseball on their diamond would do.
I can’t imagine what this place is like when there are people around, but when we went it was an absolute dream! I only hope that when I return to Restoule Provincial Park it’s as wonderful as the first time.
